Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently released his first video from Sheba Hospital - Tel Hashomer, after successfully undergoing a pacemaker implant procedure overnight. In the video, Netanyahu thanked the public who demanded his safety and the medical staff who treated him.

"I would like to thank the many, many who demanded my well-being and thank the excellent team at Sheba who accompanies me," Netanyahu said, adding: "As you can see that Shlomi is excellent, we are continuing our efforts to complete the legislation, and also the efforts to do it by agreement - tomorrow morning I join my friends in the Knesset, in the meantime thank you very much." The prime minister's private physician, Dr. Zvi Berkowitz, said after visiting him that he was feeling well and expected to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. For the time being, Justice Minister Yariv Levin has been approved as Netanyahu's temporary replacement.

During the night, Netanyahu issued a statement before entering the medical procedure, saying: "A week ago they put a monitoring device on me and this device beeped tonight and said I need to get a pacemaker, and I need to do that tonight. I feel great, but I listen to my doctors. Until the last few minutes I spoke with my colleagues and I hope that agreement will be reached. In any case, the doctors tell me I'm expected to be released tomorrow afternoon and I'll come to the Knesset for a vote." His doctors even admitted that the tests carried out by the prime minister last week did not turn out normally: "There was a disruption in the ECG, following which he underwent the invasive examination."

About three hours later, Sheba Hospital announced that the medical procedure had been successful. "During the night, Prime Minister Netanyahu's monitoring device warned of an arrhythmia in his heart. On the recommendation of his doctors, it was decided to implant a pacemaker in his heart," the medical center said, "The procedure was performed under sedation, by Prof. Roy Beinart and Prof. Eyal Noff, and passed successfully, without complications. The prime minister's medical condition is good, and he will remain for observation in the cardiology department at Sheba."

Following the medical procedure, the government approved tonight in a telephone poll the appointment of Justice Minister Yariv Levin as acting prime minister at the time of his surgery. The cabinet meeting scheduled for today was postponed. The security discussions Netanyahu was supposed to hold and his meetings with the chief of staff were also canceled.

This morning, Defense Minister Yoav Galant arrived at Sheba Hospital and met with Netanyahu. Galant's office claims that he came to Sheba anyway for tests, entered the ward where Netanyahu was hospitalized, but it is not certain that they will meet. Yesterday, it was reported that Galant said that "the situation is very worrisome" and that he is working with the coalition leaders to postpone the Knesset's recess in order to allow the postponement of legislation reducing the cause of reasonableness, which would allow the parties to reach a broad agreement.

About a week ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu was evacuated to Sheba Hospital at Tel Hashomer after losing consciousness at home and collapsing. After he was hospitalized, the prime minister claimed that it was dehydration. "I spent time with my wife in the sun, it's not a good idea," Netanyahu said in a statement, thanking his doctors. The hospital, however, claimed that he remained in the cardiology department. The next day, the prime minister underwent further cardiology tests at the hospital, after which he was discharged. Among other things, Netanyahu underwent an EPS catheterization test and was implanted with a heart rate monitor (ILR). His office said the tests were normal.

The prime minister has the option of declaring incapacitation for a limited period in advance and notifying the government of a temporary substitute of his choice. This is what he did last January when he performed medical tests and announced that he was temporarily incapacitated, and the replacement was former minister Aryeh Deri. According to the Incapacitation Law approved by the Knesset last March, only the prime minister can announce his incapacitation for medical reasons, and if he cannot declare himself incapacitated, a vote is required in the government and the Knesset, in which a majority of 3/4 of the government ministers and 2/3 of the Knesset committee is required to declare incapacitation.
